The arrest of Faisal Shahzad, the lowlife who tried to set off a car bomb in Times Square, is causing controversy among lawmakers as to whether or not Miranda should apply. I, personally, have no soft spot for idiot wanna-be terrorists whose intent it is to set off a massive explosion in a crowded public area with the goal of killing innocent people. I mean, if he had no regard for the rights of others, why should we have any regard for his?
Shahzad is an American citizen, born in Pakistan and naturalized. We may feel that Miranda, and other legal protections, should not apply to him because of his alleged ties to the Pakistani Taliban, or whatever other groups want to claim him. My opinion is we should hang him from certain body parts to insure a slow and miserably painful death, but then I remember that he hasn’t been convicted… yet.
Timothy McVeigh, the Oklahoma City bomber, who also had no regard for anyone else’s rights, was also an American citizen. Not naturalized, but born and raised in the good old US of A. He was Mirandized and enjoyed other legal rights afforded to him by the US Constitution and laws – until he was executed.
If Shahzad was not a citizen, then he should be treated as a war criminal, wrung out like an old dishrag for information, then hung up by the aforementioned body parts.
However, since Shahzad is an American Citizen, then let’s Mirandize him, then try him and fry him.

With airline security being what it is, flying is a huge hassle anymore. It seems the more hoops we have to jump through, there is just one more idiot out there to make even more hoops.
It seems a federal air marshal had to subdue this moron because he apparently tried to light his shoes on fire while in the lavatory. According to this article from MSNBC, the man is a Qatari diplomat and claimed to be trying to set his shoes on fire.
We may need to begin checking our shoes before boarding a plane if this keeps up, or take off the undies and go commando. Heck, let’s just strip off and fly naked. Not only will it be difficult to hide a weapon, it will certainly save on baggage fees as well.

We hear about some Americans who have joined Al-Qaida and are denouncing America should get their wish. We should give them what they want and revoke their US citizenship. I figure Al Qaida can have our garbage.
This idea has the added bonus that as non-citizen enemies, we can treat them as combatants and, if we capture them, treat them as prisoners of war. Since they are not citizens, we should not treat them as though they have the rights of American citizens.
That means no Miranda, no lawyers, no rights beyond the basic human rights. It also means that we can give them a fair military trial and a swift execution.
I’m just saying…

Shortly after Obama took office, he made it known his desire to close the detainee camp at Guantanamo Bay within a year. I thought that his first concern should be for the economy, but it seems to be compassion for those who do harm in the world, destroying and killing innocent people. I do not share his compassion.
My biggest concern, and apparently I share this concern with others, is: What do we do with those detained there? Releasing them is not an option because, as you know, they will run back and join the first terrorist organization they come to. And since they already have such a love for the United States, we know that they will be even more zealous in their attacks.
Recently, more Democrats are joining with the Republicans in telling the president that Gitmo needs to remain open at least until we know where we are going to store the detainees we have. We certainly do not want them in the US. I suppose I am getting cynical in my old age and believe the good people of this world need to stop tolerating the evil.
