[...] …it was sold to us is that the lottery money would add to, not replace existing funds for education. We were told the lottery would not be a mainstream funding for education. We were lied to. [...] Going to school five days a week has long been the norm, but with energy prices still high, some districts have gone or are considering going to four-day school weeks. This actually happened in the 1970s oil crisis, but most districts returned to a five-day week once the crisis subsided. [...] Yesterday, President Obama went to a high school in Arlington, Virginia, and gave a speech that was televised on C-Span aimed at school children across America. For some reason, quite a few people were upset about this stating that the President is forcing some sort of hidden agenda. I think it was mostly parents who didn’t care enough to read the speech online before deciding if they liked it or not. [...] President Obama’s message to schoolchildren will happen today, but it is already causing a major controversy. Some say it is an inappropriate use of school time. Or why not air this in prime time when the children are at home with their parents? It must be sinister propaganda and we must use the schools to indoctrinate our children. [...] Is it fair for your job performance to be based upon the performance of others who have no interest in your well-being? [...] Student reporter Damon Weaver, who interviewed Joe Biden earlier this year, interviews president Barack Obama about education. He asks some good questions, including if the president has the power to make school lunches better and how the president handles bullies. This is a must-see interview. [...] I want to sincerely thank Oklahoma Governor Brad for recognizing legislation which would have devastated Oklahoma education. Last week, Henry vetoed Senate Bill 834 which would have removed about 20% of Oklahoma schools from having to follow state mandates. This bill was authored by Sen.
