Muskogee’s Government
Muskogee’s is under the Council-Manager (weak mayor/strong manager) form of government. The day-to-day operations of the city are supervised by the City Manager. The mayor presides over the city council consisting of eight members. The mayor is a voting member of the city council and has limited administrative powers.
Terms of Elected Officials
The term of mayor is two years while the city council serves four year terms that are staggered so that there is no election of a full city council at any one time. Mayor and city councilmen are not paid or compensated in any way. Elections are held the first Tuesday in April in even numbered years. City councilmen and mayor are elected by the city at large, but councilmen must reside in the ward they are representing. The city is divided into four wards with two councilmen in each ward.
