For more years than I have been alive, the Muskogee Daily Phoenix was THE news source for Northeast Oklahoma. I worked for the Phoenix for 10 or so years of my life and consider it an enriching experience. As with any job, it had its ups and downs, but I feel I left their employ with valuable experience that I still use today. I also feel it is still a valuable and indispensable part of this community and Northeast Oklahoma and wish them continued success.
However, the world is changing and so is the way we get our news. More and more people are turning to online sources for their news. The Phoenix has done an admirable job of posting relevant stories online. Since I very rarely now pick up a newspaper, I depend on the online stories to keep me updated.
Now, there is another source of news and entertainment for Muskogee – Leif Wright’s MuskogeeNOW. It has only been up and running for just a few weeks now and, to tell the truth, I had a few doubts at first. But, I subscribed my RSS reader to his site and am very happy to notice more content coming online every day and am now positive this enterprise is going to grow and thrive. I have had the pleasure of knowing Leif for many years and have worked with him both at the Phoenix and on some independent projects. If anyone can make this go, it is Leif.
In signing off, I urge you to check out MuskogeeNOW and continue to check back as I’m 100% positive you will make it part of your daily reading.

Ditto – I’m glad to see another alternative out there. The Phoenix needs to be held accountable. Besides, competition is good.
Case in point, when the Phoenix failed to mention the local state senator in a corruption/ethics controversy.
