There has long been a debate on the separation of church and state and how, on publicly owned property, we should refrain from anything to do with any religion. We can’t have the Ten Commandments in our courthouses or other public buildings, even though most of our laws are based on them. According to this Sun Sentinal article, you blame your cat. This Florida man told authorities that he would leave his computer on and his cat would jump on the keyboard. [...] Earlier this week, the White House posted on their blog a request for anyone to report “fishy” information about the health care bill to a White House email address. A blatant ploy, in my opinion, to have citizens report other citizens to the government based upon their opinions. This would be a definite violation of our first amendment rights. [...] Struggling school systems, where graduation rates are low, grades are down, and attendance is considered optional by the students, are hungry for new ideas to incentivize students, to make them want to learn. Gold stars, trinkets, MP3 players, cell phones, etc. have been used as a carrot to entice children to attend school, participate in tutoring programs, and study harder to make good grades. Now, some schools are considering paying students to get good grades. Is this a ticket to disaster, or the answer to the problem? [...] Our founding fathers were wise men. These sovereigns understandably want to secure their borders and keep those who would enter illegally out of their country and that is their right.
