Thank you for calling the IRS, for health care, press…

How many people have had positive experiences with the IRS?  Go ahead, raise your hands.  Okay, there, I see you sir, you in the back.  Anyway, the answer is probably not many of us.  The Internal Revenue Service, responsible for collecting taxes and what not, will be responsible for making sure you have health care, or taxing you extra for not having it under both the senate and house plans, according to Legal Insurrection.

I’m not anti-government and I’m not anti-taxes.  I do think society needs government and I think there are some good things our government does for the people.  But, there are a lot of things that private companies do better than the government and probably always will.  President Obama said himself that Fed-Ex and UPS are doing better than the United States Post Office (who’s always messing up).  And now the government wants to get into the health insurance business.

I also know that private insurance needs to be fixed.  Every year as my premiums go up and the coverage goes down, I know it won’t be long before I’m paying a lot for very little.  Fixing private insurance is where I think the president’s focus should be.  As far as helping the uninsured obtain affordable health coverage, fix the private insurance and then contract with them.  Just my suggestion.

So can the government really run health insurance better than private companies?  Or should they try to fix the system that is in place instead of trying to replace it?

People often joke that government-run health care will have the efficiency of the motor vehicle department, and the compassion of the Internal Revenue Service. This joke will become reality if present Democratic health restructuring proposals are enacted.
