Orwell’s Big Brother is finally here

*UPDATE 8/17/09: Whitehouse pulls plug on flag email address: Politico

In the late 40′s, George Orwell wrote a book about a totalitarian society in which Big Brother watched and controlled everything titled “1984″.  This was his vision of the future.  1984 came and went and no Big Brother.  We still had the first amendment on our side.  Until now.

Now, Big Brother Obama wants citizens to report other citizens for exercising their first amendment rights in criticizing the president’s health insurance reform.  The White House Blog asks citizens who get an email or see something on the web fishy about the health insurance reform, to report it to the White House.  So, now, if one citizen does not like what another citizen writes, they can report each other to the government.  Are we going back to McCarthyism?

Over the summer, my wife and I visited Washington, D.C.  We also visited the National Holocaust Museum, where I learned quite a bit about the politics of Nazi Germany.  Hitler’s government also encouraged citizens to report each other to the government.  So, if your neighbor didn’t like you, then they reported you and you get a visit from the SS.

This Fox News article sheds light on the obvious privacy issues brought by such a reporting system.  So, not only does the president want to stomp all over our privacy in health care, apparently he wants to remove our right to complain.

unless you mean the reality show.

Your categorizing of the White House trying to stay in touch with the American people’s feelings about health reform as McCarthyism is absurd considering this blog’s stance on Obama’s health care plan. You repeatedly call Obama, and the effort to reform health care as “socialist” in an attempt to demonize them, all the while displaying no real understanding of socialist ideas. Calling Obama socialist in one blog entry and then McCarthyesque in another is ridiculous considering the blatant way at which the accusations of socialism are presented here, which include pictures and articles comparing the president to Adolf Hitler and the Stalinist Soviet Union. The Red Scare seems to be a theme of this blog, but are you writing about it or participating in it? Pot, meet kettle.
