I received this You-Tube video via email and liked it. I’m not saying he’s right or he’s wrong with the entire message, but he is correct in saying that we the people need to be much more involved in our government. I share it now with you. Bob Basso author of “Common Sense” plays the role of Thomas Paine to ignite the fire of change in America. Patriotism and Pride for America lead Thomas Paine to help take back America!

My 22-year-old son needed a new car, so we went with him yesterday to help him out a bit. To tell you the truth, I was NOT looking forward to this. I’ve been in too many dealerships where the pressure is on and you feel like a slime if you even think about leaving without one of their cars. I mean, how dare you turn down their generous offer to help you out because, of course, that is their only interest. When you show the least bit of hesitation, the sales manager comes in to assault you. They never want to tell you the best price for the car, but what your payments will be, so they want to run your credit first. I don’t play that game any more.

How many people have had positive experiences with the IRS? Go ahead, raise your hands. Okay, there, I see you, you in the back. Anyway, the answer is probably not many of us. The Internal Revenue Service, responsible for collecting taxes and what not, will be responsible for making sure you havehealth care, or taxing you extra for not having it under both the senate and house plans, according to Legal Insurrection website.

Back in June, I first heard about the government’s “Cash for Clunkers” program and had mixed emotions about it. To be honest, I didn’t know how it would go over. The response was overwhelming as people took advantage of this program, dealers were happy to see customers actually buying cars, manufacturers had to step up production to keep up. This sounds like a terrific success. And, I have to agree. I think this is one of the best stimuli to the economy yet.

Carl Bartholomew, best known to adults in Eastern Oklahoma as Uncle Zeb, passed away yesterday at 78, according to an article at KTUL-TV in Tulsa. The reason I say best known to Adults is because he was best known to kids – when we were kids. From 1969 until 1979, Uncle Zeb would host the Cartoon Camp watched by thousands of children from all over northeastern Oklahoma.

According to this article in Politico, the White House has disabled their flag@whitehouse.gov email address. If the effort was truly to gather questions about the health care reform bill and not collecting names, then there are better ways to go about it so people can post anonymously and the questions can be answered in a FAQ form. That way, the White House doesn’t have to worry about the record keeping aspect, and citizens don’t have to worry that they are on some kind of list.

One of the things I believe this country has suffered from for as long as I can remember is apathy. It seems like every local, state or national election brings news of low voter turnout. People just don’t think they can make a difference. I hear it all the time, “Mine is just one vote,” or “My wife’s vote will just cancel mine out, so why should we vote?” and other excuses for not voting. I try to tell them to vote anyway, because if they put their 1 vote with someone else’s 1 vote and so forth, then they will see a change.

My wife and I have been Bank of America customers for many years. We each have a credit card from them. We have never been late, never missed a payment, and always paid more than the minimum payments. Our other bills are paid on time and as agreed. In fact, our credit reports have never looked better. And, Bank of America has even told me repeatedly that, because of these facts, we are considered good customers. So why do they want to punish good customers?

Student reporter Damon Weaver, who interviewed Joe Biden earlier this year, interviews president Barack Obama about education. He asks some good questions, including if the president has the power to make school lunches better and how the president handles bullies. This is a must-see interview.

In America, at least for now, we have the protection of the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States which protects our freedom to speak our mind, to peacefully assemble, and to write our opinions without fear of retribution from the government. This freedom allows us to criticize our government and our president. However, should the criticism ever include threats?

New airline passenger rules go into effect this Saturday. In their latest actions to treat us all as terrorists, the TSA is now requiring that you provide your birthdate and sex, as well as your full name as it appears on a government ID to make a reservation. So, now they will have your name, address, date of birth, sex, credit card number and seat preference. All the things we are told make it easy for someone to steal our identification. That’s alright, though, they’re a government agency where all your top-secret information is kept secure. At least, Obama hasn’t compared the TSA to the post office… yet.

I love to hear a capella when a good group is singing. Call me old-fashioned, but I can sit and listen to a barbershop quartet all day. This isn’t a barbershop quartet, but they are a great-sounding group. Anyway, I found this while surfing the web and thought I’d share:

“I, I recognize, though, you make a legitimate, you raise a legitimate concern. People say, ‘Well, how can a private company compete against the government?’ If you, if you think about it, uh… y’know, UPS and FedEx are doin’ just fine. Right? Th-the, uh… No, they are. I mean, it’s, it’s the Post Office that’s always havin’ problems.”

This is a great recipe I made last night. I found a similar one on-line and modified it for me. My wife loved it (and me, too, for fixing dinner). It’s so easy a man can do it and low-calorie to boot.
