OPEC today announced that it ‘predicts’ higher oil prices. I almost laughed when I read the crawler at the bottom while watching Good Morning America. I imagine it does since they are a huge factor in steering the price of oil anyway. [...] If you ever want to meet a wide variety of people, consider being a camp host. For those who don’t know what a camp host is, I’ll explain. A camp host, at least in Oklahoma state parks, is a person who monitors camp sites, collects camping fees, assists campers with information or problems, calls the park rangers when necessary, and much, much more. In exchange, we get to camp all summer for free. It really is a fun gig if you can get it. [...] For those of you who thought that the high oil prices last year were due to “market conditions”, let me enlighten you. It was big oil’s experiment to see exactly how high they could raise the prices before Americans, and the rest of the world, had enough. They got their answer. [...] My father used to say that the American Civil Liberties Union does more to remove our civil liberties than they do to protect them. I tend to agree. I have no doubt that some of their fights are legitimate and protect the minority, but it seems most of what I see in the news about their actions is asinine. [...] According to Gallup, most Americans continue to oppose same sex marriage. However, it also shows that most Americans believe that relations between consenting adults of the same sex should be legal. But, it doesn’t take too much driving in Muskogee to realize that something has to be done to repair our city streets. On June 9th, there will be 3 sales tax questions on the ballot for city residents to decide. [...] A great many of these graduates are entering the job market with the highest unemployment rate we’ve seen in years, possibly their lifetime. A great many of those are also carrying more debt than ever due to student loans and, probably, credit cards. [...] I want to sincerely thank Oklahoma Governor Brad for recognizing legislation which would have devastated Oklahoma education. Last week, Henry vetoed Senate Bill 834 which would have removed about 20% of Oklahoma schools from having to follow state mandates. This bill was authored by Sen. John Ford, R-Bartlesville, who apparently had no idea of what he was [...] [...] Last year, Muskogee County residents voted to add a 50-cent fee to each cell phone to support a county-wide enhanced 911 system. As of today, only Muskogee has a 911 system and it only works with land-line phones. Cell phones will be routed to the front desk, not a dispatcher, wasting valuable time. [...] |
