May 30th, 2009 For those of you who have never had a Great Dane, or even met one for that matter, you know not what you are missing. Those of us who have Danes will probably never have another breed of dog. However, not everyone is fit to be a Great Dane person. [...]

May 29th, 2009 OPEC today announced that it ‘predicts’ higher oil prices. I almost laughed when I read the crawler at the bottom while watching Good Morning America. I imagine it does since they are a huge factor in steering the price of oil anyway. [...]

May 28th, 2009 If you ever want to meet a wide variety of people, consider being a camp host. For those who don’t know what a camp host is, I’ll explain. A camp host, at least in Oklahoma state parks, is a person who monitors camp sites, collects camping fees, assists campers with information or problems, calls the park rangers when necessary, and much, much more. In exchange, we get to camp all summer for free. It really is a fun gig if you can get it. [...]

May 27th, 2009 For those of you who thought that the high oil prices last year were due to “market conditions”, let me enlighten you. It was big oil’s experiment to see exactly how high they could raise the prices before Americans, and the rest of the world, had enough. They got their answer. [...]

May 27th, 2009 My father used to say that the American Civil Liberties Union does more to remove our civil liberties than they do to protect them. I tend to agree. I have no doubt that some of their fights are legitimate and protect the minority, but it seems most of what I see in the news about their actions is asinine. [...]

May 27th, 2009 According to Gallup, most Americans continue to oppose same sex marriage. However, it also shows that most Americans believe that relations between consenting adults of the same sex should be legal. May 26th, 2009 Our health care system is broken. Something does need to be done to fix it and I don’t have the answer either, but there are a lot of people smarter than me who should be able to figure this out. [...]

May 20th, 2009 Shortly after Obama took office, he made it known his desire to close the detainee camp at Guantanamo Bay within a year. I thought that his first concern should be for the economy, but it seems to be compassion for those who do harm in the world, destroying and killing innocent people. I do not share his compassion. May 18th, 2009 Vacations are nice. It is fun and relaxing to go somewhere you’ve never been and seeing and doing new things. Most of us, however, have been to some great places but are ignorant of our own back yards. The Muskogee area, Green Country, Oklahoma and surrounding states all have fun things to do that will not break the bank. [...]

May 18th, 2009 President Obama is under fire to nominate a minority for the supreme court. Race or sex should not be a factor in deciding who sits on the nation’s highest court. The only question should be: Are they qualified? [...]

May 17th, 2009 Nobody likes to pay more taxes. Okay, I guess I can’t reallysay that. However, what I can say is that nobody I’ve ever asked about it has said that they really like to pay more taxes. But, it doesn’t take too much driving in Muskogee to realize that something has to be done to repair our city streets. On June 9th, there will be 3 sales tax questions on the ballot for city residents to decide. [...]

May 17th, 2009 A great many of these graduates are entering the job market with the highest unemployment rate we’ve seen in years, possibly their lifetime. A great many of those are also carrying more debt than ever due to student loans and, probably, credit cards. [...]

May 15th, 2009 I want to sincerely thank Oklahoma Governor Brad for recognizing legislation which would have devastated Oklahoma education. Last week, Henry vetoed Senate Bill 834 which would have removed about 20% of Oklahoma schools from having to follow state mandates. This bill was authored by Sen. John Ford, R-Bartlesville, who apparently had no idea of what he was [...] [...]

May 15th, 2009 Last year, Muskogee County residents voted to add a 50-cent fee to each cell phone to support a county-wide enhanced 911 system. As of today, only Muskogee has a 911 system and it only works with land-line phones. Cell phones will be routed to the front desk, not a dispatcher, wasting valuable time. [...]
